Problem Statement:
This company's core technology is built around scraping publicly available websites (such as amazon) and selling off that data. Their biggest challenge occurs when the website decides to change the format of the website slightly. In this case a programmer needs to adapt his script to accommodate the change. This is very tedious and work and since these changes actually occur very frequently - it takes up alot of R&D time.
Data Strategy was asked if we could build a machine learning model that will be able to automatically identify the relevant data on the page regardless of the html formatting.
We successfully delivered an algorithm that does just that.
Business Impact:
The algorithm was expected to reduce R&D cost considerably. We subsequently learnt that the technology we had built eventually replaced the need of a team of 20 developers which were manually performing the same task.
Decision-Making Enhancements:
The ML component is part of the core tech being displayed to potential advertisers and investors.
